Former State Representative, Kiah Morris, was first elected in 2014 as the only black female member of the Vermont House. She had to resign in 2018 following months of online harassment that then escalated into her physical world. Through it all, Kiah has continued to be a vocal advocate for justice system reforms that protect all women.
Kiah’s story, along with the stories of three other female leaders in government and advocacy from across the globe, is featured in the documentary Backlash: Misogyny in the Digital Age.
We are thrilled to co-host the first U.S. screening of Backlash: Misogyny in the Digital Age in collaboration with the VT Network Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, Rights & Democracy VT, La Ruelle Films, The Vermont Women's Fund, and supported in part by the Vermont Humanities.
The screening will take place on Tuesday, February 7th, at the Vermont State House in Montpelier starting at 6:30 pm.
The 78-minute film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Kiah Morris, Guylaine Maroist, the co-director of Backlash, VT State Representative Taylor Small, and VT's Executive Director of Racial Equity, Xusana Davis.
